I like to use tweeds and checks to help build my rugs.  In  the pioneer days women took whatever was in their rag bags to hook rugs, using burlap f eed bags and linen coffee sacks as backing.  Their lives were hard but the rugs they created were like a magic carpet, transporting them to a more colorful world.
